Your courses, your cards, your multiple-choice questions and your planner stay on your device, in a Mnemesia folder: the one you choose on a computer, the one the Files app shows under “On My iPad” on an iPad, the one in the Files app on Android. No one else has access to it, not even the publisher of Mnemesia.

Mnemesia works offline. It sends no usage statistics, no error reports and none of the content of your documents. It contains no advertising, no trackers and no audience measurement. No account is needed to open it and use it fully.

What you import (lecture handouts, images, notes) is written to your Mnemesia folder and nowhere else. Deleting this folder deletes your data: no copy of it exists on our side.

The Mnemesia folder is stored in the space reserved for the app, and the Filesapp opens it for you under “On My iPad > Mnemesia”. Your handouts, your notes and your annotated PDFs are real files there: you can copy them, send them or store them elsewhere without going through us.

Two differences from a computer, imposed by iOS and not by us: the location cannot be chosen, and uninstalling the app erases this folder along with it. Before deleting Mnemesia from your iPad, copy this folder from the Files app if you want to keep it. The device’s iCloud backup protects you against a lost iPad, not against an uninstallation.

Mnemesia, whether it comes from Google Play or from this site, stores its folder in the space reserved for the app. Android’s Filesapp shows it to you (menu, then “Mnemesia”): your handouts and your notes are real files there. The app requests no permission to access your photos, your contacts, your location or all of your files.

As on iPad, uninstalling the app erases this folder. A backup saved from Mnemesia to Downloads or to Drive, however, remains.

On the App Store versions for Mac and iPad, a setting lets you store the Mnemesia folder in your own iCloud, so you can find your courses from one device to another. It stays off until you turn it on. The transfer is performed by Apple, in the iCloud storage of your account, under Apple’s own terms: no Mnemesia server sees your courses pass through, and the publisher of Mnemesia has no access to them. Each device keeps its full copy, usable offline.

The Flashcards and QCM screens offer a prompt to copy, which you can give, along with your handout, to the AI of your choice (Claude, ChatGPT, etc.). This happens entirely in that tool, which you open yourself, under its own terms: Mnemesia calls no AI and sends it nothing. The file it gives back to you is then imported like any other.

Since September 26, 2026, this site has been public: you can read it and download Mnemesia without signing up, without a form and without a tracking cookie.

To know how many times Mnemesia is downloaded, the site records each click on a download button: the system chosen, the date, and the country and approximate city that the host already attaches to the request. Nothing that would allow you to be identified: no name, no IP address, no cookie, no identifier.

Before that date, downloading required signing up (first name, last name, email address, phone number, university and year of study), and the site recorded the date of visits and downloads as well as the approximate city of the connection, never the IP address. People who signed up at the time remain in this register, and their visits continue to be recorded there as long as their browser keeps the signed sign-up cookie (180 days at most). This information is not sold, not passed on and not used for advertising purposes, and is erased upon simple request.

An earlier version of Mnemesia required an account. Accounts created at that time still exist on the server: email address and encrypted password, nothing more, never the content of courses. They have served no purpose since the app started opening without an account, and are deleted upon simple request.

• The site and its register: Vercel (site) and Neon (database, Frankfurt region, European Union).
• The server for the former accounts: Render, Frankfurt region, European Union.
• Service emails: Brevo, a French company.

None of these companies receives the content of your courses, for the simple reason that it never leaves your device.

Apple, Google and Microsoft measure the downloads and installations of every app in their store, and share the totals with us, without ever naming anyone. This measurement is theirs: the app itself still transmits nothing.

You can ask to access, correct or erase the information concerning you, and object to its retention. One address for all of this: raphael.fourest@gmail.com. Requests are handled within one month, and erasure is permanent.

In case of disagreement, you can lodge a complaint with the French data protection authority, the Commission nationale de l’informatique et des libertés (CNIL), cnil.fr.

Any change to this policy will be published on this page, with its date. If a future version of Mnemesia were ever to transmit anything at all, it would be written here first, and announced in the app before being turned on.
